“PLAYOFFS? You wanna talk about PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS?”
That’s right, the PGA Tour playoffs are here. We can finally put an end to the “season long race for the FEDEX Cup”. The first event of the playoffs is The Northern Trust at TPC Boston. The last time a tour event was held at TPC Boston, Bryson Dechambeau won the event. However, the Northern Trust was played at Liberty National last year, and that event was won by Patrick Reed. Both Bryson and Patrick Reed are on the “No Fly” list (future blog?) for me, so this week, I am focused on picking guys that I think have games that have been trending and guys that I think are great value plays. Here are my picks for this week:
Pick #1: Daniel Berger $8,900 (FPPG: 80.8)
Coming into this week, Berger is ranked #7 in the FedEx Cup Standing and has had a very nice run since golf returned to action. He has a win and two top five finishes in his last five events. He did have the one missed cut at the Memorial, but he rebounded nicely with a T2 at the St. Jude WGC and a T13 at the PGA Championship. Daniel Berger is my first pick for this week’s squad.
Pick #2: Tyrell Hatton $8,000 (FPPG: 86.2)
Complete value play here. I could give you the all of recent performance specifics like I did for Berger, but to be honest this is a pick based solely on average FPPG and value. Of the top ten highest priced players this week on Draft Kings, Hatton has a higher FPPG than seven of those guys and he is $1,200 cheaper. Low hanging fruit for sure, but Hatton’s value was too good to pass up.
Pick #3: Kevin Kisner $7,600 (FPPG: 64.1)
“This aint no hobby boys” and Kevin Kisner is trending. After missing the cut at the Memorial, Kiz has been producing better finishes each week since. T25 at the St. Jude WGC, T19 at the PGA, T3 at last week’s Wyndham Championship. He has had 6 MC’s this year so he is a bit of a risk, but it seems like he is starting to find a little groove and I am hoping to capitalize on it.
Pick #4: Harris English $7,600 (FPPG: 75.2)
Steady Eddy. Harris has played 17 events this year and missed only two cuts. He is my safety blanket for the week. I just need him to make the cut and collect a few birdies. If he contends, I will consider it a bonus. Stat to note: 12 top 25 finishes out of 17 events. Every good team needs role players. Dudes that will take a charge, block of few shots from the point. Harris English is my role guy this week.
Pick #5: Tiger Woods $8,700 (FPPG: 81.8)
THE CAT! When you fill out the lineup card, and this man is in your lineup, you dont need to give an explanation, but this is a blog for god’s sake, so I’ll give one. He opened the PGA Championship with a two under 68 and then had back to back rounds of 72 to put him way out of contention on Sunday. However, he went out and fired a 67 on Sunday, which was his lowest round since his return to the Tour post COVID. If you get any inkling that Tiger is finding form, it is usually good for business. I’ll take him this week at The Northern Trust.
Pick #6: Adam Scott: $8,400 (FPPG: 81.6)
I feel like Adam Scott fly’s way too far under the radar most weeks on the PGA Tour. He is 11th in the Official World Golf Ranking yet, the only time he is talked about, is when he makes a Poulter-esque fashion statement. When you look as good as Adam Scott does, you can wear whatever the hell you want and it still plays. Nonetheless, I am calling his number this week at the Northern Trust. He opened the PGA Championship with a 68, followed by two rounds of even par, before another 68 on Sunday. The PGA Championship was his first start on Tour since March. I am looking for a big week out of him to start the playoffs.
That’s it. Those are the 6 guys I am rolling this week on Draft Kings. I left $800 on the table, but in the end, that only matters if you lose. Best of luck to anyone playing Draft Kings this week and as always:
Enjoy the Chase!
