Draft Kings: US Open

Safeway Open: Review

Let’s just jump straight in to my picks for the US Open. I don’t even want to think about last weeks Draft Kings lineup. The whole, I am going shake things up strategy, was a colossal failure. Five of the six guys in my line up missed the cut. If you want to see that lineup it will be linked here -> Draft Kings: Safeway Open.

Bad week. I am turning the page.

Here are my Draft Kings selections for the US Open.

US Open Selections

This week on Draft Kings is going to be tricky. At major championships, the creme usually rises to the top. I fully expect the top dogs to be in the hunt to win the US Open on Sunday. Therefore, the challenge this week will be fitting several high quality players into the salary cap.

Lets jump in.

Selection #1:

Xander Schauffele $10,100 (FPPG: 80.6)

DJ ended up winning the Tour Championship after being staked a two shot lead to start the week, but it was Xander that shot the lowest four round total that week. Schauffele has proven he has what it takes to contend in majors championships, with two top three finishes in the majors in 2019. It is hard to pick against DJ right now, but Xander is my pick to win the tournament this week. With that being the case it makes all the sense in the world to make him my first selection on Draft Kings.

Selection #2:

Gary Woodland $7,800 (FPPG: 71.7)

This pick is about respect. Woodland did not have his best year on tour this year after winning the US Open in 2019. However, he is the defending champion. Winning back to back US Opens is tough, but Brooks accomplished the feat in 2017 and 2018. I am not sure that I see Gary winning this week, but I would expect him to play well. Gary Woodland is my second selection on Draft Kings.

Selection #3:

Louis Oosthuzien $7,600 (FPPG: 69.8)

King Louis name seems to pop up on major championship leaderboards from time to time and he finished T7 at last years US Open at Pebble. Winged Foot is a very different golf course than Pebble, but I expect Louis to play well this week. Like I mentioned at the top, I am trying to focus on proven commodities, and as a former major champion, Louis is proven. If he can get me a top 25 finish, I would be satisfied. Oosthuzien is selection number three for me on Draft Kings.

Selection #4:

Martin Kaymer $7,100 (FPPG: 67.1)

This pick scares the living day light out of me. Kaymer is a former US Open champion, but he has kind of fallen off the map since. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship and he hasn’t played a ton of golf on the PGA Tour lately. However, his last two tournaments on the European Tour resulted in a second place finish, and a third place finish. If his game travels and this could be a nice week for Kaymer. Again, this pick scares me, but I am going with Martin Kaymer as pick number four on Draft Kings.

Selection #5:

Tommy Fleetwood $8,900 (FPPG: 71.1)

Do you ever go to the store and buy something simply because you recognize the brand? That is exactly what I am doing here. I am not sure I like this price at all, but I have quite a few bucks left in the budget and I like Fleetwoods game. He cant seem to find a way to get a win on the PGA Tour, but if he can find a way to finish in the top 10, I will be happy. Tommy Fleetwood is pick number five on Draft Kings.

Selection #6:

Tyrell Hatton $8,100 (FPPG: 83.5)

Old reliable. Mr. Tyrell Hatton. Every time I pick this guy, he produces. After going off the reservation last week, I felt the need for some stability. Hattons price always hovers right around $8,000 and yet, his FPPG is the highest on my team this week. Until Hatton gets priced out of the market, I will keep calling his number. I just hope his performance translates to the majors. I am looking for a sneaky top ten out of Hatton this week. Tyrell is my final pick on Draft Kings.

Shake it Off

After last weeks performance, I am a little shook. I don’t have a ton of confidence heading into this week, but I do like this lineup. There are a few risks for sure, but big risks can sometimes lead to big rewards. For selfish reasons, I am hope that plays out this week on Draft Kings.

As always,

Enjoy the chase!
