My Golf Bucket List
One of the things you do when you have been playing golf for as long as I have, is you start to develop a golf bucket list. Most of the courses on my golf bucket list are what I call aspirational courses. What do I mean by that?
Well, Augusta National Golf Club sits at the top of my golf bucket list. Problem is, you can’t exactly dial up the pro shop and book yourself a tee time at ANGC. Any of the tee times open to non members, are available during the second week in April. All you need to do get your name on the tee sheet for that week, is work your way into the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
I think it is safe to say that Augusta National may linger at the top of my list for a little while.
Most of the courses on my golf bucket list are private golf clubs. This week, I added a new entry to my bucket list and this one has the potential to stay on the list for quite some time.
2020 US Open at Winged Foot Golf Club
One of the areas of the country that supplies the most courses to my golf bucket list has to be New York.
For example, this week, the US Open is being held at Winged Foot Golf Club. Winged Foot Golf Club is a private 36-hole golf club located in Mamaroneck, NY. I added this course to my golf bucket list for a couple of reasons.
- Winged Foot sports one my favorite logos in all of golf
- The club opened in 1923!
- The greens on the West Course at Winged Foot Golf Club are supposedly some of the most challenging green complexes in the world
- This week will be the 6th time Winged Foot Golf Club has hosted a US Open
- I want a half hour inside the castle of a clubhouse to see what kind of history lingers in its halls
Any course that has the privilege of hosting six US Opens must be pretty spectacular and packed with history. Not to mention, with current technology, this course has seemingly stood up to the test of time.
I’m super excited to see the US Open coverage this week. I have definitely bought into all of the hype surrounding Winged Foot Golf Club leading up to the tournament. The pictures and drone footage of the course has had me drooling for at least the last seven days.
If you want to see the footage I am talking about, head over to the USGA’s youtube page. Linked here -> USGA Youtube.
Winged Foot looks true American golf classic, and I would love to see it first hand.
Help Me Out!
As a history buff, Winged Foot was a must add to my golf bucket list. If anyone knows a guy that can get me on, please don’t hesitate to call. You know where to find me.
As always,
Enjoy the chase!
