The game of golf can be brutally difficult. Just when you think you’ve got the game figured out, golf has a way of reminding you to hold your horses.
No one is immune to this aspect of the game. Even tour players.
The Shot Heard Round the World
For several years, the PGA Tour ran a commercial that featured the slogan “These Guys are Good.” While I agree with that statement 99% of the time, every once in a while, a tour player will hit a shot you would expect out of a 30 handicapper.
During Saturday’s second round at the Tour Championship, Rory McIlroy hit just the shot I am talking about.
I mean, what the hell was that?
McIlroy cold hard tops this shot straight into the water.
Now, for me and you, this type of shot happens in our usual foursome at least once a round. But on the PGA Tour, this type of display is as rare as seeing Bigfoot.
In fairness, Rory still almost made par on this hole, but the shot he hit into the water was truly jarring. It’s not every day that you see the fourth best player in the world hit a shot this poorly.
While the action at this weeks Tour Championship has been extremely dull, the golf gods were kind enough to grace us with this gem. We probably wont see another one like it for awhile so I figured I would document this moment for historical purposes.
So, the next time you hit a shot and want to MF the world, just remember that we’ve all been there and no one is immune to the cruelness of the game. Even Rory McIlroy.
Until next time,
Enjoy the chase!
